InuYasha? Or is it Inuyasha? Either way, this feudal fairy tale is the one of the most popular Japanese anime out currently. And it all started with a comic book series (known better as a “manga series”) written by Rumiko Takahashi. The manga itself began in Shonen Sunday, a weekly publication in Japan, as early as November of 1996 and carried on through to 485 chapters published as of 2006 and is still going. If you are collecting these issues, you can collect every 10 or so chapters in a bound volume. There are no signs that Inuyasha will stop and you can continue reading the manga to your heart’s content as long as Takahashi continues to create the story.

If there weren’t tons of people enjoying the series, it wouldn’t have continued and it would have been a dismal failure. And the author wouldn’t now be one of the richest women in Japan. The demand for the story to continue comes from the readers and viewers of the manga and anime, and this demand has spread across the world.

The English version, published by Viz Media, had to be changed in format because, of course, in Japanese a person reads from right to left where in the U.S. and many other countries, the reading goes from left to right. The English comics were published starting in 1998 and continue being issued, but they are still a few years away from catching up to Japan publications of the story.

Inuyasha was first broadcast as anime on satellite television by Animax, and in the U. S. on the Cartoon Network. It is also running on the Latin American Cartoon Network and is dubbed in Spanish. You can even see it on some cruise ships, if you care to spend a cruise watching anime. Well, many do! And this just verifies the huge popularity of the series and the incredible and fascinating tale of Inuyasha and the Jewel of Four Souls.

Anime has become a phenomena. More and more Anime series and movies come out each year and the population of Anime fans around the world keeps on increasing as well. Also, the popularity of a particular Anime title that became a hit TV series usually lasts for years. Eventhough the show has ended on the TV station where it was aired, fans will search for their own copies of the series and watch it over and over. One might be wondering: What’s the secret behind Anime’s success? What does Anime have that often cannot be found in its Western counterparts? In this article, I’ll try to point out some of the key factors behind the success of Anime.

While cartoons, that were made in Western countries mainly targets children as its main audience, Anime, on the other hand, targets a wider range of viewers. As a matter of fact, a big part of the die-hard Anime fan population are teenagers and people in their early to mid 20′s. In most cases, while children enjoy the spectacular actions and fight scenes, adults and young adults appreciate the complexity of the story and its emotional content. Most Anime series are mixes of comedy, action, and drama.

Main characters grow and develop their abilities as the story progress.

Unlike in most western cartoons, wherein once the hero has established its character there’s a little room (often none) for improvement, Anime characters grow as the story goes along. A good example would be the “Dragonball Z” characters where they even use “power levels” to show the improvement in a character’s fighting skill. In the sports Anime titles “Slam Dunk: Team Shohoku” and “Hajime No Ippo”, the main characters learn different techniques in every match. Often, the most exciting moment in an episode of an Anime series, is when the villain and the other characters are surprised by the hero’s new ability.

Making the viewers watch out for the episodes to come.

Most Anime series manage to get the viewers “hooked”. By purposely keeping the story hanging at the end of every episode, viewers tend to watch out for the next and they would never want to miss out and episode. On most action Anime series, the battle between the hero and the villain lasts for several episodes while keeping each episode different from the other.

Although there are more reasons why fans keep going after their favorite Anime titles, we’ve pointed out three of the most common factors. (1) It can attract more viewers because it purposely targets a wider range of audiences. (2) The way the Anime characters grow and improve provides more excitement to the viewers. This is also one of the key factors behind the success of Role-Playing Games (RPG). And finally, (3) viewers are attached to their favorite series because of the way Anime writers intentionally ends every episode by not giving a definite conclusion to the story.

There are a few things that transcend cultures. Often, countries and cultures are so different that what is accepted and loved in one country is not accepted and loved in another. As a result, the core value system or language is so different that it just never catches on. However, anime is one of those special things like music or some fashion choices that have managed to cross different cultures.

Anime, which is the shortened version of Japanese term animation, is huge in Japan. It is a genre that produces massive profits and it has been around for nearly 100 years. Anime is not only released in Japan but around the world. It is translated into multiple languages, bringing in billions of dollars every year.

Anime originated sometime around 1917. Japanese filmmakers began experimenting with animation techniques that were coming out of European countries; the oldest known anime clip consisted of a samurai warrior testing a new sword that lasted 2 minutes. By 1933, companies were releasing anime that had sound.

In 1937, after the successful release of Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a Japanese animator named Osamu Tezuka managed to simplify many of Disney’s trademark animation techniques into something cheaper that let him both experiment with his animations and still get them out on a very tight schedule. The manga boom of the 1970s also helped the industry grow. Mangas are Japanese comics, many of which ended up being turned into anime later on. This practice is still hugely popular in Japan where the most popular anime shows are actually adaptations of Japanese manga. By the 1980s, anime had become popular and accepted by the mainstream in Japan and that also caused production to increase. When several anime shows such as Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Sailor Moon, and Cardcaptor Sakura were released, anime’s fame became popular in overseas countries in the 1990s, further establishing anime as one of Japan’s most successful industries.

Animes are defined by several unique things. While it’s true that artists have their own personal vision for their art, there are some stylistic elements that are now present in all anime. These include things like very large eyes, very complex hairstyles, and elongated limbs. Body proportion is directly related to the length of a head. For instance, almost all anime characters are drawn to a standard “eight heads” and then if they are taller, another “head” of height is added. The characters also have very large eyes that can be brilliantly colored in shades like silver or purple. The colors are added with the purpose of giving the eye’s cornea depth. This is done by shading the eye with a light color, the tone color, and then a darker color.

An anime character’s facial expression is also very important. Their faces are extremely expressive where Western cartoon characters are not. A variety of expressions that are never used in Western animation are common place is Japan. For instance, to express embarrassment, a sweat-drop is drawn on the character’s head. If a character is non-pulsed, their eyes will revert to slits. If a character is particularly emotional, their eyes will actually seem to “waver.”

All of these things are common in anime. The genre has produced some of the most interesting stories the world has ever seen and continues to be one of the most profitable.

In some countries, entire television stations are devoted to anime. These stations, along with their associated websites, allow fans around the world to watch anime clips and entire episodes either on the TV or online.

Episode 2 of the Naruto anime series starts off with Naruto taking a bizarre photo for his ninja registration. Clueless as to what is expected of him in the photo, the photo is later rejected by the Hokage. Dispite the Naruto oriented beginning, this episode mainly focuses on Naruto meeting Konohamaru, the grandson of the Third Hokage.

After realizing that Naruto doesn’t treat Konohamaru like everyone else in the village, Konohamaru decides to adopt Naruto as his “boss”, which is met with much dismay by his tutor. Naruto reluctantly takes Konohamaru under his wing and begins teaching him about “Catcha”, what we soon find out to be the mispronounced word for “Chakra”. Konohamaru is most interested in learning Naruto’s sexy no jutsu, where he transforms himself into a beautiful, and normally nude, version of himself as a distraction technique.

First, Naruto tries to get Konohamaru to “henge” (Japanese for “transform”) into a pretty local woman. The transformation is performed unsuccessfully and Naruto gets all of the blame as the woman attacks him for the misshapen version of her. Next Naruto takes Konohamaru to a local bookstore and they flip through a magazine of girls in bathing suits. As soon as they are noticed, the store clerk gives Naruto another mild beating for looking at magazines that he’s not supposed to. For Naruto’s last lesson, he takes Konohamaru to the woman’s public bath. Naruto is recognized soon after entering and is given his third beating for the day. It’s safe to say that Naruto is quite the pervert for a 12 year old.

Details of Naruto’s past are explained in this episode, including how he became the Kyubi (9 tailed fox beast) and why everyone looks at him so coldly. There is also a hint to who Naruto’s father is, something that won’t be disclosed until way farther on into the manga series. All in all, you are given a pretty good idea as to why life has been so hard for Naruto.

Winding down towards the end of this episode, Naruto realizes that him and Konohamaru aren’t so different. Konohamaru is looked at differently by the entire village just because he is the grandson of the Third Hokage. The episode ends with Konohamaru announcing that him and Naruto are now rivals since they both desire to become Hokage. This sudden change from friends to rivals is also due to Naruto saying that Konohamaru will have to beat him to become Hokage. Either way, Konohamaru will look up to Naruto many episodes into the future, and they will form a relationship that will last throughout the entire anime and manga series.
